At least since the 19th century, the Dinaric Alps have had the reputation of being the “Mountains of Giants.” A comprehensive study of regional body height shows why — and it predicts further growth. The world’s tallest people are no longer the Dutch, but (at least by one measure) the Montenegrins. As the Western Balkans develop economically (and nutritionally), some regions may witness an average male height of 190 cm (nearly 6’3″).
